Professor Dr. Viswanath
Tammanagowda Patil, son of a freedom fighter of Dharwad in Karnataka, is an
erudite scholar of repute with national and international recognition. With a
First Class Masters Degree in Political Science from Karnatak University,
another Masters Degree from Me Master University, Canada a first class First
P.G. Diploma in Gandhian Studies, a Ph.D., from the Karnatak University for
his outstanding research work on Jawaharlal Nehru's contribution to the
National Movement, a D.Litt., from the Magadh University for his creative and
original work on Mahatma Gandhi and his Leadership Role in the Civil
Disobedience Movement, Dr. Patil was also recently conferred w^h Doctor of
Laws (Honoris Causa) by the Global Peace University, Opiende, Friesland, The
Netherlands for outstanding work done in the areas of social sciences for
bringing peace on Earth in the third millennium.
A well known specialist in the field of personality studies, Dr. Patil has
had a distinguished career for more than three decades occupying a number of
important positions in academia- He has been closely associated as Member/
Chairman/Vice-President/President with many professional institutions or
educational organisations / academic bodies in a number of institutions in
India and abroad.
Professor Patil is an outstanding teacher with vast experience and is a
researcher of high repute with most cited scholarly works in India and
abroad. He is a committed scholar emphasising new and challenging values of
higher education and has organised a very large number of seminars, symposia,
workshops, training programmes for more than three thousand college teachers
(refresher and orientation courses) for the betterment of higher education.
He has been awarded the coveted National Fellowship by the University Grants
Commission (1986-88) for his original work. On this occasion he visited Trinity College,
Cambridge University, England and India Office Library Records, London.
Professor Dr. V.T. Patil has been the recipient of national and international
honours bearing Gold medals and citations for his outstanding contribution to
the field of higher education, for promoting Peace and Understanding through
publication of a number of books and research articles, for meritorious
service in the field of social service and literature, for outstanding
contribution to human rights education, for contribution in the field of
educational planning and administration, for achievements in the field of
University teaching, research and academic administration, for outstanding
contribution and research on Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, for
contribution and dedication to Astro Science/ Spiritual Science for the case
of Human Welfare.
Dr. Patil has travelled very extensively both within and outside the country.
The towering personality of Dr. Patil is a rare combination of psychology
ethics, spiritualism, wisdom, concern for humanity as also for human values;
a committed and concerned administrator for all sections in the society. He
is a well-known academic and an academic administrator. Dr. Patil's
leadership qualities are par excellence. Dr. Patil with his unique exemplary
qualities of leadership brought the Pondicherry University
on the national map as a University of excellance. Under Dr. Patil's
leadership, Pondicherry University was awarded A4 stars out of A5 stars by
the National Council for Assessment and Accreditation; an autonomous body of
the University Grants Commission. The University Grants Commission has
categorised 115 Universities across the country on the basis of
"Performance Composite Indicators". Of the 115 Universities that
have been categorised, Pondicherry
University is the only
one earmarked for 100 percent of one third development grants with the
Composite Performance Indicator as much as 76.87%. This places Pondicherry University
among the top dozen Universities in India. These wen-merited
achievements are indicators of his success.

credit. He is therapist of repute in treating drug addicts. 34 scholars have
obtained their Ph.D degrees under his guidance. Mirny nauonul and internal
awards are to his credit. clinical Psychometry is his area of specialization.
As a personality he is a good thinker and leader. He is soft but assertive.

is teacher, trainer and professional service provider of repute. Thousands of
