11th National Conference on School Psychology

Organised by

Pondicherry Psychology Association, Puducherry,

in collaboration with

Indian Academy of Applied Psychology,  Madras Psychology Society, Chennai  and

Paaventhar Teacher Training Institute, Puducherry.

 

10 - 11 January, 2009     

The term school psychology is used in a general form to refer to professionals prepared in psychology and education and who are recognized as specialists in the provision of psychological services to children and youth within the contexts of schools, families, and other settings that impact their growth and development. As such, the term also refers to and is meant to include educational psychologists and others who display qualities this document associates with school psychology (ISPA).

The Pondicherry Psychology Association, Puducherry,  in collaboration with  Indian Academy of Applied Psychology, Madras Psychology Society, Chennai   and Paaventhar Teacher Training Institute, Puducherry are jointly organising 11th National Conference on School Psychology on 10th and 11th January, 2009 at Puducherry. We hope that this conference will become a turning point in the development of a new approach to the school education, which will carry in it the very best of what modern teacher education and psychological approaches have to offer. We try to explore innovative ideas and exchange the possibilities of introducing school psychology in the present scenario.

Objectives

  • Developing new initiative to introduce school psychology in India
  • Exposition of various aspects of school psychology
  • Exposition of existing practice of  school psychology in India
  • Exploring the possibilities of designing new curriculum for school psychology.
  • Developing e-content for school psychology.
  • Developing e-contents for applied psychological experiments and testing.

To achieve the objectives described above, there will be two plenary sessions and six concurrent technical sessions. Each of these sessions will be devoted to one of the main objectives. The plenary sessions will have invited speakers only. 

Submission of papers: 

Delegates are requested to submit their papers following APA style (refer website: www.jiaap.org for writing a research paper) on any of the listed topics. To ensure a consistent high quality of all the presentations, participants will be requested to submit the full text well in advance and not later than 31st December, 2008. Abstract and paper should be sent by email ( ) or hard copy with CD in MS-Word format only.

No TA/DA will be paid to the delegates.

Special Features:

  1. IAAP- PPA Best Psychologist Award: An award with citation will be given every year for the outstanding Psychologist of the year
  2. IAAP-PPA Best Educationist Award: An award with citation will be given every year with the PPA specific guidelines.
  3. Psychometric Educational Services Award: A certificate and cash award Rs.1000 will be given every year. This award was instituted by Psycho Educational Equipment, Arcot, Tamil Nadu.
  4. Prof.  A. Gnanam Best Teacher Award: A certificate will be given every year for the outstanding teacher of the year
  5. Best Teacher Award: A certificate will be given every year for the best teacher of the year. This award was instituted by

  6. Best Book Award: A Certificate and Cash award of Rs 1000 for the best book published on psychology and related subjects. This award was instituted by
    Prof. B. Viswanatham. 
  7. Best Paper Awards (Two): A Certificate and Cash award of Rs 500 for best papers presented during the conference. This award was instituted by
    Prof. B. Viswanatham.

Registration fee: 

Rs.500/- per participant. The Registration fee should be sent in advance by DD in favour of the Pondicherry Psychology Association, payable at Puducherry. Please note that there will be no new registrations on the spot.

Venue: 

Venue of the conference is at Hotel Ram International, Anna Salai Puducherry. Puducherry is situated 160 kms south of Chennai. It is headquarter of Union Territory of Puducherry. Every half an hour there are buses from Chennai Koyampedu Bus Stand to Puducherry via ECR, the trip takes 3 - 4 hours. 

Boarding and Lodging:  

Boarding and Lodging for out station delegates will be arranged at the available guest houses. The rooms will have double occupancy. You can also make your own arrangement in one of the many hotels in Puducherry.  For details you can also mail to          

Future Perspectives: 

The afternoon of second day of the conference will be devoted to a reporting session in which the important ideas that transpired during the conference will be highlighted. It should bring the depth and relevance of school psychology into focus and find ways and means to introduce in India.
